Do you have a fast internet connection? If so, then you can start off with the small net-installer CD. With a net-install, all packages will be pulled from the internet. This can be slower than if you install packages from CD, but you'll always be guaranteed to have the latest versions when you install.
If you don't have a fast internet connection, you probably want to start off with something other than true Debian. A Knoppix based distribution, like Mepis, compresses around 2gigs worth of packages into a 700meg CD.Isaac Kuo, ICQ 29055726 or Yahoo mechdan

see if it detects your internet connection..
if it does then no problem if not ..try to configure net first;if you can't get a minimal cd and install all minimum things you want.
then go into your OS configure apt ...once apt is configured no one can stop you

I've only downloaded the first cd of the set. The rest are used by apt to install your apps, so I just tell it not to look for a cd.
