    need ubuntu breezy upgrade help

    Hi,

I am fairly new to linux an would greatly appreciate some help.
I am trying to upgrade from Hoary to Breezy however i keep getting this error

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
abiword-common: Depends: abiword but it is not installed or
abiword-gnome but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

I tried using synaptic to fix abiword-commens which it sais its broken however it
    failed.

    thanks in advance.

So did you try including -f? (sudo apt-get -f dist-upgrade)

If you continue to get many errors, it might be a better solution to download Breezy. With this, you can also re-install later should you need to.

dpkg: parse error, in file `/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 857 package `abiword-gnome':

    So their's still nothing upgraded?
Try to install all missing packages first, and do the upgrade again.
If you don't have your original repos anymore, download them manually(they should get replaced anyway):
    http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/abiword/
    ...and install them like this:
    sudo dpkg -i packagename

PS: keep in mind that auto-upgrades do include a risk!

    missing version

so i tried to install the abiword-gnome package in the same way and got the exact same error

    Thanks for the help!

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
abiword-common: Depends: abiword but it is not going to be installed or
abiword-gnome but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

This sounds like an error for installing something
Did you do: "sudo apt-get remove abiword-commen abiword" ?
