Help on installing DivX4linux and Firefox

    hey everyone
im a beginning linux user under ubuntu (debian-based) and am trying to install divx4linux. the download was a targz file, so i decompressed the files into a divx folder on my desktop. then i opened the root terminal to try and somehow install this, but couldnt figure anything out. can anyone help me and guide me step by step how to install this? im also trying to install firefox 1.5. i can run firefox by dbl clicking the install.sh file and clicking run, but i want all my shortcuts to point to the new version. any help would be appreciated

    thanks
