    i believe it's because debian is supporting a bsd kernel in etch... seems like i read somewhere that this was a new feature in etch and i know i saw it when i got my kernel sources the other day. so now you can have debian GNU/Linux or
    Debian GNU/BSD... or maybe it was hurd. can't remember now.
