    etch 2.6 kernels ...

I just wondered what others are doing for 2,6 kernels in etch. I could find neither an image nor source package under testing that I could use (I need both HT support and highmem).

Did I miss something somewhere? The new (beta) etch installer defaults to the 2.6 kernel and installs 2.6.12 ... where's the source for it?

Anyway, I ended up going to kernel.org for the 2.6.14.2 source, which is okay. I just found it odd that I had to do this, since I'm used to installing kernels on debian using the dpkg method.

Just in case you don't know, the kernel sources are supossed to be in /usr/src.

Yes, that's where I put them once I got them

I just couldn't find the 2.6 packages in the debian testing repositories, and you don't get kernel sources in the base debian distro.

    Actually here's the solution:

I'm used to "kernel-image-whatever" and "kernel-source-whatever" but starting with etch the "kernel" part has changed to "linux" ...

so the package I really wanted was "linux-source-2.6.12" ...

Oh, well, things are always changing ... that's what makes my sig always true

That weblink above to the packages says kernel-image-2.6-*

Yes, but this is exactly what I wanted.

Dunno why they changed the naming convention for some of the kernel packages ...

Sorry, my mistake. I should have read that you wanted the source.

Yes, it does seem weird about the naming conventions. Why not kernel-source-2.6.12? Ah well, at least you got it.

It used to be that but they changed it a while back.
