    problems getting alsa drivers installed

    hi all

i just installed debian on my pc today
and i like it so far although i would like to get sound
so i went to alsa-project and started following the instructions for my sound card
which is a sound blaster live 24-bit card
    when i went to
    ./configure --with-cards=ca0106 --with-sequencer=yes
it went along and then came up with this
    config.status: include/autoconf-extra.h is unchanged
    Hacking autoconf.h...
    and then it just stopped
does anyone know what i need to do to get my sound card working
    thanks

Did you try it the debian way first?

I have another problem: I have installed Fedora C 4, and have the same 24-bit soundcard from Creative, but my errors are many, after trying to install them driver:
I installed a wrong driver at first, and after that I couldn't complete the process. Here are the points where I couldn't het the expected results:
-the modinfo soundcore says it doesn't recognize the command
-the chmod a+rw /dev/dsp /dev/mixer /dev/sequencer /dev/midi says the directories do not exist
-modprobe snd-ca0106;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss says that the parameters do not exist
    -alsamixer not working

I installed the drivers using root (at first), and the modinfo command worked, but the chmod didn't (that's when I installed the wrong drivers). After that I logedin as a normal user and used a su in a Konsole, and followed the same steps, allthow I got errors.
how can I uninstall the previous drivers? Are the previous drivers the problem?

P.s. how can I uninstall my ATI drivers? They aren't working as expected (in cedega a Warcraft 3 game works extremly slow). Would a clean install make it work?
