I'm just being curious here: 1) Which kernel version are you using? 2) Is it a "stock" kernel or custom one? - if custom, how did you compile it?...

    Of kernel version and custom kernel

    I'm just being curious here:

    1) Which kernel version are you using?
    2) Is it a "stock" kernel or custom one?
    - if custom, how did you compile it?

    Myself I use Debian Sarge with:

    -linux-kernel (vanilla, no patch) version 2.6.14.2
    -to compile, I use the config from the "stock" 2.6.8.2 and did some tweaking in menu-config, then I built the package and installed it with the needed modules

    What about you people?

    2.4.27-2-k7 and the the latest stable 2.6 from kernel.org (the default 2.6 didn't work for me, I do place them in a .deb package before installing them).

    As I just recently reinstalled Gentoo, I have the latest 2.6 kernel which I compiled myself.

    I guest it depends what kind of system you have. If you're low on ressources, latest 2.4 (so 2.4.32) with maybe the low latency patch is certainly a better solution than a 2.6 kernel.

    As I can spare the RAM, I personaly prefer to go with a 2.6 kernel.

    Code:
    # make && make modules_install

    Ok, more seriously: unless it's for a brand new machine, I always have another working config to refer to, so it's pretty easy. Although by now I know the drivers I need for my main box without looking.
