Ubuntu Adjustments
I have 2 Ubuntu Breezy related questions, so listen carefully:
1. PS2
My mouse was a USB Microsoft Optical, but it was replaced with an HP PS2 mouse that has the exact same buttons (both 3 buttons with scrollwheel). How do I configure X to use that mouse using either text based tools on Ubuntu or a Knoppix live cd?
2. Framebuffer Backgrounds
Okay, I do like that new bootsplash that Breezy has, but I want to get rid of it and replace it with a framebuffer kernel in the easiest way possible. I want to just disable Usplash, not totally uninstall it. If you uninstall Usplash, it will uninstall ubuntu-desktop, and I will be upgrading to Dapper when it comes out so I want to keep it the same. Then, I want to use a framebuffer background at 1280x1024 32 bit color (or the next closest). How do I acclompish this?

I don't have an answer for #2 but for #1, have you tried to reconfigure X with xorgconfig. Run through that program (have your monitor specs ready) and copy the resulting file to /etc/X11/
I know xorgconfig asks questions about monitors but it will also ask questions about your mouse.

Those are good ideas, but there are 2 things I'd like you to note; However Ubuntu detected my monitor and stuff for the configuration, it did not ask me anything, yet it found everything (even the native resolution for my LCD monitor, 1280x1024).
The other thing is, I want to do this in the simplist way possible. Will that sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg ask me anything and do a questionless redetection like the install? If not, how do I edit the configuration file so that it uses a PS2 mouse?
Don't forget the twist, the 2 mice are identical (button wise), but one is PS2 and the one specified is USB.
