    newbie - installation mistake

Hi folks, I searched the forums, and the Debian help as much as I could, but did not find an answer.

I have installed Debian on an old IBM THinkpad 600E. During the installation I did not choose the correct video or audio chipset. I now have the right information (neomagic video, sc46xx audio), but I don't know how to make the changes.

I have run xfree86config, and changed the video options, but they don't seem to take effect. I have no idea where to change the audio params.

Without reinstalling from scratch, is there a way to fix this that a Linux newbie can handle?

    Thanks in advance

For you video setting try thise code, as root

    #dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

Oh, I assumed that you're using Sarge. Just follow the instructions, if you don't know the answer for the question, try enter nothing and just hit <enter>.

    Good luck.
