Help with video in firefox...
I want to use the mplayer plugin to play video in firefox. I have both the plugin, and mplayer itself installed. However, in Ubuntu, Totem is also installed by default (can't remove it either, or the whole ubuntu-desktop package gets removed.) Right now all videos in firefox automatically try to open with totem. How do I make mplayer the default player for in-page video?

do you have the .so file in plugins directory and the .xpt file in the components directory? If not sure go to those and look for mplayer-plugin.so and .xpt files in there. Here is some instructions:

you can also see what plugins are installed by typing this in your url window

You could try removing the totem plugins from the plugins directory and make sure just the mplayer-plugin ones are there. No guarantees though.
For me, the plugins are in /opt/mozilla-plugins/ but it may be different for you.
