Which kernel are you using?
If you have the default 2.4 kernel, than you need to install the alsa modules for it:Code:uname -a
Instead of doing that, I suggest you switch to a 2.6 kernel.Code:alsa-modules-2.4-386
Besides the kernel modules for 2.4 (or simply a 2.6 kernel), you need those packages:
Once you have sound working, if your soundcard doesn't support hardware mixing, cf you cannot ear from multiple programs at a time, you will need to configure alsa dmix.Code:apt-get install alsaplayer alsaplayer-alsa alsa-base alsa-utils
