Debian is great for ALL networking tasks, but if you specify what networking tasks you had in mind we would be able to give a better recomendation.
Many of the ppl who offer advice on these forums have run or do run several "flavors" of Linux and may recomend one version over another for your specific intentions

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

wel microsoft seem to think so. until recently they used freeBSD to run most of their websites.
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

Most all popular Linux distributions are good for all of the above. Could you be more specific as to what you're looking for?

Sorry but I don't see exactly what I can say to be more specific.

Ok. Debian, Fedora Core, SuSE, Mandriva, or pretty much any other Linux will work with what you mentioned before, so if you're looking for suggestions on what distribution to use, you'll need to give us more criteria. For instance:

On what type of computer are you planning to install it?
Will it have broadband internet access?
Any non-standard PC parts on it? (RAID, scanners/cameras, 3D Goggles)
What brand is the video card on this computer?
Are you looking for "Looks like Windows XP" or are you more comfortable with "let me tweak it as much as possible"?
