Wink Mounting NTFS Volume to Install WinXP Pro

    Hello,

I'm currently using Ubuntu as my linux distro (and I love it) but I've been too used to having a dual boot system in the past so I want to configure a portion of my partitioned hard drive so that I can install XP on it. I've tried numerous different tools (such as ntfs, nfs, mkdos, etc.) and I just can't seem to get Ubuntu to oblige with the mounting of the partition. Additionally, I can't load up Windows by restarting the computer since I risk damaging my data.

does anyone have any clue as to how I could possibly install XP from within Ubuntu? Maybe there is some kind of emulator or ntfs terminal tool or something?

thanks and sorry for the lengthiness!

I don't see why you would need to do this from *inside* Ubuntu. You can just leave an unpartitioned section of your harddrive and boot with your XP disc, then point XP to the unpartitioned space and let it create the NTFS partition.

Just a liitle bit of extra info on the XP install
If somehow you ever managedto get it start from within Ubuntu, once the install starts you will be rquired to reboot the computer. In fact, Windows has 3 or 4 restarts during the install.

Windows will overwrite grub, so you should be prepared to reinstall grub after the XP installation.
