KDE with Debian
Well I got the Debian cds I ordered today in the mail. I was wondering how I could get KDE to install, it seems to just install GNOME by default. I haven't finished installation yet so it's not a problem to restart it. Thanks.

re. kde install
Assuming u are installing Sarge and u have gotten to gnome probably with gdm then while in gdm u can choose other desktop(kde) as long as it is installed.
Do u have internet connexn setup? Have u run apt-setup to use internet(ftp or http) ?--or just ur cds,wc is ok too? U can run apt-get install kde if it isn't in the gdm menu. U can use synaptic to install kde also as long as it is installed. In other words where are u in ur install?
Check out these refs:
1)Google Debian Tips and Tricks 2)Review Debian install tutorial in this forum 3)Read Post-install configuration at top of LQ(linuxquestions) debian forum 4) Try dl'ing SimplyLinux book by jetzblack wc covers debian install and config 5)Try Debian Administration web site newbie tutorials. These and more guides can help u finish ur install successfully.
Good luck.

I am using cds. Can I use apt-get and direct it to the cd to install packages, once I have booted into Gnome or KDE? The last time I installed I just told it to install all the packages though, so everything should be there now eh.

No need for that, KDE is install by default with the "Desktop" package you choose during installation.
Just login into KDE instead of GNOME when you load GDM.
That's it.
If you want to make sure it is installed:
But I tell you, it is with Sarge.Code:dpkg -l | grep -i kde

kde in sarge
kbk, as already said u probably already have kde. U can use apt-get to install pkgs from cds but u can also use synaptic for same. U can also add other sarge sites including security sites to ur /etc/apt/sources.list file. Checkout the LQ debian forum (top of page) for sources lists u can try -like the marillat sarge site.
Before trying major changes use ur system for a while as is, setup ur modem, printer and desktop to ur liking, read up on debian, then with that knowledge under ur belt try adding programs not included with sarge( like dvd, mutimedia playing, browser plugins,kde3.4.3 backports, etc) by default.
Have fun!
