    GDM/KDM problem

    Hi i am relativly new to linux, and i have recently installed debian sarge 3.1 and gnome.

    the problem i am having is that when the gdm login promt comes up, the text is way to small to read (looks like grey lines) and i cant really see what i am doing.

    I switched to KDM but i had the same problem. do you know where i can access the gdm/kdm configuration files or something?

    I`m using XDM and the config files are in /etc/X11/xdm/, I dont know about KDM but they may put in the same place.

    man xdm may also help you.

    Good luck.

    there is a file called /etc/X11/xdm/kdmrc that holds some stuff about Greeter fonts. But be aware, you are probably using a theme with kdm (this will be shown in the above file).

    Rather than blunder around in this file, try going into the KDE Control centre (assuming that (a) you are using KDE and (b) your version of KDE has this function), and select System Administration and the Login Manager, then select the Font tab. You'll need to use the administration mode to change anything which requires the root user's password.

    Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
    Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS

    In Gnome 2.8.2 (the Debian Sarge version), go in
    "Applications/System Tools/Login Screen Setup". (for GDM of course)

    Still, I'm not sure the solution to your problem is there...

    I went into the applications->system tools->login setup

    and i changed around a few things and changed the theme, and it still had the problem. the strange thing is is that when i went back in and changed the theme and then changed it back again after that and then rebooted the computer, it was fixed.

    I dont know what i did, but it is fixed now. thanks guys.
