Sure, you can install thunderbird from the command line with:
apt-get install thunderbird
(you must be root to do this)

To istall thunderbird
apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
I usually add in enigmail and GNUpg so I can sign and encrypt emails
apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail gnupgfar...out

There is also Evolution and KMail (comes with KDE).
Evolution integrates very well with GNOME and KMail, like mentioned above, comes withe KDE.

Sylpheed is also available..but I don't recommend it.

It's faster and lighter than all of the mentioned apps (I use the Gtk2 version).
