Kanotix internet problems
Hi all,
Im new to linux,im running the kanotix distro which ive been lead to believe is Debian based.Ive managed to resize my windows partition and im now duel booting using grub. All is fine im very happy, ive even managed to get my wirless pci card installed (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...&class=com)Now its telling me its connected, but im sending packets and not recieving them, and cant connect to the internet, when I try kwifi manager it tells me connected, but also no networks inrange, and in network settings within control panel it says that wirless card is enabled working?
Im running in dhcp mode with auto ip,it finds my ip (im on a static ip) fine.Have I missed something?I was told my pci wirless card is fine out of the box for use withlinux?
Also im on an open network, with no firewalls installed.

Have you installed the Windows driver through ndiswrapper? I'm no expert, but here is a good link: http://www.tuxmagazine.com/node/1000167 that might be of help. I'm by no means an expert here, but I've no had much luck with my Netgear USB WG111 wireless network adapter on Linux. I can get it to work...sometimes, but it will often lose connection and I will have to reboot and restart the interface. I finally just went back to using a wired ethernet connection.
However, my Toshiba Satellite Pro (not sure of the adapter, it's internal), works great out of the box. It is an older laptop, so maybe that has something to do with it; at any rate, hope you get it up. I'm sure some of the smarter folks here can help.

Give this a shot..
the MSI PC54G2 card has the Rt2500 chipset on it.. this howto is for ubuntu, but it's debian based as well so should be pretty similar. (other than they use sudo instead of switching to root user.. )
