    DVD to AVI converter

I need a program to convert my DVD collection into AVI files so I can store them on my hard disk. I did a search of the forum and found some vague references to dvd::rip, will this work? I'm using Ubuntu 5.10.

    Thanks!

Dvd::rip (mainly a GUI for "transcode"), and --my favorite-- "Acidrip" (a GUI for "MEncoder").

They both work really nice, but acidrip is a lot simpler.
