[KANOTIX]ATI driver installation
I am running Kanotix 2006 CeBit edition installed to HD. I am wanting to install the Linux ATI Drivers off of their site, but am having some difficulty.
So far I've downloaded X.Org's 6.8 and run/install the .rpm file, but am given the following errors:
How do I go about fixing this? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.Code:<n/data/fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386.rpm';echo RESULT=$? error: Failed dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 ld-linux.so.2 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libc.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libdl.so.2 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libexpat.so.0 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libfontconfig.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libfreetype.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libgcc_s.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libICE.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libm.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libpthread.so.0 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libSM.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libstdc++.so.5 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libX11.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXcursor.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXext.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXft.so.2 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXinerama.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXmu.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXrandr.so.2 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXrender.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXt.so.6 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libXxf86vm.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libz.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 librt.so.1 is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libgcc_s.so.1(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 librt.so.1(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2) is needed by fglrx_6_8_0-8.22.5-1.i386 RESULT=1

I strongly recommend using the "ATI Driver Installer" available from ATI's site, rather than the RPMs. As of a few months ago the installer supports Debian and works quite well.

Yes, the .run file. In a terminal, just type
I don't remember whether you need to be root do run it; if so, you'll need to also have access to the X server, which su doesn't give you. I recommend using sux in that case (probably have to apt-get install sux first).Code:$ sh <name_of_driver_file>.run

Installing ati drivers? Kanotix?
I would guest something like that:
Simplest and most effective way I can think of, as Kanotix is based on Debian Sid.Code:sudo apt-get install fakeroot module-assistant chmod +x ati-driver-installer-8.23.7-i386.run fakeroot ./ati-driver-installer-8.23.7-i386.run --buildpkg Debian/sid sudo dpkg -i fglrx-driver_8.23.7-1_i386.deb fglrx-kernel-src_8.23.7-1_i386.deb apt-get install kernel-headers-$(uname -r) cd /usr/src m-a prepare m-a a-i fglrx
Then, change /etc/X11/xorg.conf driver from "ati" to "fglrx".
And reboot..."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

Thanks everyone for your replies, I am going to try them right now and let you know how it goes

*EDIT*
I think the drivers installed properly, but it set the refresh rate at too high of a setting for my monitor. I know I had this problem in SuSe and I had to run SaX in init 3 mode and put the refresh rate lower. I tried this on my kanotix but it appears that it does not have SaX. Any suggestions on how to set the refresh rate to say 60Hz?

NO!!! Don't mess with the HorizSync!!! That can be really bad.
VertRefresh will let you limit your refresh. You can set the second number to something lower than what it currently is, but definitely not higher. 75 or 85 is good if your monitor supports it, but CHECK FIRST for every resolution you intend to use.Stand up and be counted as a Linux user!
