    Yes, you should definitely create a user account. It's considered a big security no-no to do everything from within the root account.

    OK. I got 'no volume control elements and/or devices found', but I don't have a soundcard so I suppose that's to be expected? If I stick one in, will it attempt to install and configure it nicely?
