3web in Linux is it possible?

Ive been wanting to learn linux for a while, so i sent away for some free Ubutnu cd's and they just came today, ive been playing around with the live cd's and trying to get on the internet but with no luck.
I live in an area with no high speed access and i have 3web dial up.
In Windows 3web uses a little system tray application that you have to use to connect, and it's impossible to connect without it because it forces you to enter an authorisation key. They don't offer the software for linux ether. I figure if i can't connect to the internet with linux and Download updates/sotware etc. it's pretty pointless to try and install it
Im a complette noob when it comes to linux so any info on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    3web

    Hi,
I think here the issue is not the modem setup but the 3web login process. When you sign with 3web you receive an user ID in the form CYLXXXXCSXXXXX and a password like 123456. When you install the login manager it creates a new username/password set in the form username: lnnnnnnn@3web.com and an 11 byte password wich is put into a ini file and it is in HEX. I don't believe the pawssword is further encripted but anyway therre is no way to use this password later in Linux.

If somebody knows a way to do it please post it. It is stupid just because of that to run windows.

    Greetings,
    philipat

Hmmm I believe the slip with your account number one it will sufice as your username and password.
I have 3web ADSL (Which I love) and those are the settings I use.
When I set up my router to automatically "dial up" for me the setting were
    my account number @3web.com
and the password was my account number.
Even though I did create an account with them.
Hmm,... maybe thats just for email?
I don't know but I hope that helps
BTW: I feel sorry that you still have dial up.

    Hi All,

I just joined and have dragged this thread from a year ago about three web.
My first problem is how did anyone find the phone number to dial up 3web?
I went as far as looking at the modem log files and got this.
    Send: ATDT###-###-####<cr>
They seem to be very private about their phone numbers.
I alo saw that Edude03 was successful with the DSL service which should be
the way to go but I would like to get dial up working before the switch.
    Thanks
