when using linux, the most difficult thing (upto now) that i met is how to intall a new hardware.
Could anyone tell me general steps to install a new hardware? for instance, i have a USB WLAN, how can i make it work?
Please help.

You'll probably have to use ndiswrapper. Take a look at:

How to install new hardware depends entirely on what new hardware. Each device requires completely different steps to get it set up. You wouldn't install a video card the same way you install a wireless card. On that subject, here's a tutorial from our "How-Tos and Tutorials" section of the forum:
