Another Screen Resolution Problem Thread :(

I'm using Debian (Sarge) and also GNOME, I usually use KDE, for kicks. The Applications>Desktop Preferences>Screen Resolution won't allow anything other than 800x600 or 640x480. I edited /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and have entries in there for what my monitor can handle. I even *gasp* rebooted! But nada.

My video card is a PCI card, I can't find a cheap older AGP1 card to fit. All I wanted was to stop the blurry look I got with the integrated video.

As far as I can tell, from other threads, I've got everything set up as it should be.

I wonder if the card even exists. It is installed and it's the only thing that has the video cable coming from it to the monitor so it must be working yet cat /proc/pci shows nothing; "No such file or directory".

    Any tips?

be amused if this is too simple/already done

you may want to reconfigure the whole thing with depackage
    dpkg-reconfigure xserver-(whatever you xserver is)

a sample howto on this is listed below, note that if you have a prefered resolution just make sure none of the others is listed--of course you should be able to change on the fly, though.....
