Resetting USB Devices
Hello folks,
I recently installed Debian (and am very impressed with it), but I have a couple of issues remaining. My largest problem is with my USB audio and my ability to switch between my laptop speakers and my sound system.
I have a JVC stereo system with USB input. For Windows, all I have to do for the sound to come out of the speakers is plug the USB in my port and reset the song. Some multimedia applications also require that I reset the program. However, with Linux, I have to plug in the USB and reset my entire computer. Even then, once in a while it doesn't load properly leaving me with just my laptop speaker sound.
I use the ALSA Mixer for Gnome, and when I plug in my USB audio, a third tab shows up behind the others which says 'USB Mixer'. However, the only times it works is when I start up my computer and the USB tab is before all the other ones. The point of these last couple of sentences may be hard to comprehend, but I believe that it just indicates that something in my computer registers when I reboot which tells the sound to be handled by the USB. Inversely, if I have USB audio running and I unplug the USB cable, I don't get any audio through my regular laptop speakers until I reboot.
Anyway, I am wondering if anyone is able to assist me in figuring out if there is a way to make the USB audio transition automatic, or if there is a command or application to use when I want to switch between my regular speakers and my USB speakers, and vice versa.
Thanks so much in advance!
