New gfx card, X server GUI died

    Hi Guys,

<disclaimer>I am really new to Linux </disclaimer>

I just loaded in a new gfx card and it prompts me saying X server failed to start. I presume this has something to do with Gnome?

I had a look in the output and it says:
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
I checked the log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but its really long and the above is pretty much the only thing that I can find to be relevant.

I know I am missing something dumb, and probably just need to rerun the config or something, but I'm completely lost.

Could anyone offer me some suggestions?

    what kind of graphics card?

you need to edit you xorg.conf to reflect the change in your card.

you probably want to install either nvidia drivers or ati drivers depending on what card you have but for now to get into X you can use "nv" driver for nvidia or "radeon" driver for ati (if card is radeon series)
All right, brain. You don't like me and I don't like you, but let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer. All New Users Read This!!! If you have a grub problem please look at GRUB MANUAL

    Its a NVidia FX5500.

I found the xorg.conf, busy messing around with it now, I should be ok from here hopefully.

    Thanks for the helpspencerf
