    etch/sid no nvidia-glx package suggestions on how to install nvidia drivers.

    How do I go about installing the nvidia drivers now that the sid repos and the etch repos dont have the nvidia-glx package for xorg? Is there another debian way I can install them because all the guides I have found all say apt-get install nvidia-glx which obviously I cant do.

    I know I can use the nvidia installer although id prefer not to.

    Is it just going to be a case of waiting until the nvidia-glx package re-enters the repos. All the other packages needed are there nvidia-kernel-common nvidia-kernel-2.6-486 etc just not the glx package.

    Any suggestions?

    I had installed it before but i have recently done a new install for one reason or another.

    Thanks in advance

    Argh...

    the packages, they are gone!

    I would suggest to just use the nvidia installer, and no Debian nvidia packages at all.

    Just follow this how-to:

    An explaination of what's going on with Xorg in Debian

    http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel.../msg00010.html

    lots of things have moved around on the system so you may run into a few other issues until it's all worked out.

    People would be well advised to not update untill this one is resolved or they could end up with no desktop...

    A quick
    Code:
    apt-get update && apt-cache search nvidia
    on my Debian Unstable box shows the nvidia-glx package available in the unstable repositories.

    It was unavailable one day last week because of a conflict, but the devs had that resolved in no time. I haven't had any problems as of yet and I am currently running it.
