installing kdevelop removes gnome
I recently installed kdevelop and kde-devel. during installation apt-get removed gnome and much of the x window system and messed uup my grub installation. i was able o get everything back up by removing kde-devel and kdevelop and installing all the x-window components again.
I tried to install kde-devel again using synaptic package manager and again it removed some gnome files, but the rest of x-windows alone. i tried to reinstall gnome-core and it says the following packages must be removed: kde-devel, kde-devel-extras, kdebase-dev, kdelibs4-dev. kdesdk, kspy, libfam-dev, libfam0 libkonq4-dev.
I am currently using kde so i don't need gnome but like having it around so i can see hoe application i build will work/look in gnome. I've also used fedora core and have had all these packages installed side by side before (kde, gnome, and each ones development tools)
Why is this happening? any one know why these files are being removed?

what are you running, sarge, etch, unstable? Most likely is has something to do with gnome/kde requiring different x-windows components. If so, then it will be sorted out in a few weeks.
