Debian on Pavilion zv6000
Hi, I'm something of a Linux newb, and I was wondering if anyone has been able to install Debian on on HP Pavilion zv6000 series notebook. I downloaded the Debian Sarge 3.1 r2 netinstall disk and got it running, but it was having some problems with hardware detection (I don't think it was able to detect my network card). I was wondering if anyone was able to get Debian Sarge running on one of these pieces of crap.
Also, if anyone wants to recommend another distro (I'm looking for a 32 bit distro for it), go ahead. But don't recommend Gentoo, compiling all my software myself is a waste of time and power. I've tried Gentoo, and I'm switching to something different.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Also, maybe someone could move this topic to Linux on Laptops? I didn't really think about it too much before posting, sorry.Last edited by Cyrano; 05-03-2006 at 08:44 PM. Reason: Wrong forum maybe?

if you have one with one of the Broadcom wireless cards you are going to have to run the windows driver for it through ndiswrapper...there are a few guides on this site somewhere that'll walk you through it. It'll be a little bit of a *****, but it'll be more than worth it to get debian on there.
Operating System: GNU Emacs

I'm not talking about wireless yet even. I'm saying I can't get the installer to work because I don't think it's recognizing the Realtek network adapter that my laptop is connected to at the moment (in Gentoo). First it showed some problem with the lspci command or whatever, titling it as a problem detecting network hardware. Then, the DHCP client can't configure my network, although I'm currently configured through DHCP in Gentoo. So my guess is that it's not detecting my ethernet card. Anyone know any tricks? Anyone know if Debian can be made to work with my particular ethernet card?
In case it's useful, I did lspci and here's what I got:
Code:03:06.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
