are there really 14 cds?
isnt that kinda crazy?

Download GenieOS. It is pure Debian stable. The only thing different from Debian is that it allows you to install a KDE or Gnome desktop in a hurry. One CD afaik for the most basic stuff and you install the rest later from the net.

googled it, look very nice. i esspecially like that its all set with multimedia plugins, thats always a pain to do every installation.

Go for it... the netinstall is quick and painless for the most part.

will genieOS work on my laptop?

It should, if Debian will work on your laptop. But for laptops, I rather recommend Kanotix, which is completely built on laptops for laptops by Kano, the developer. And it is a great pure Debian system you get.

Actually, you just have to download the first one. Other CDs contain many other packages that can be installed later.
