Screen Resolution / Wireless NIC / Dist upgrade

I am serious newbie but am siked to get away from windows and I need some help.

1 - How do i adjust my screen resolution I only have the option of running it 800x600. I tried running xf86confgi but its not installed.

2 - How do I get my wireless nic installed. I am running a IBM thinkpad t42 with an Intel Pro Wireless 2200 BG card onboard.

3 - How do I identify what dist I am using? I ran updates but there are none. I installed sarge3.1 - how can I upgrade this thing.

    Thanks for your help

If you just need the 2.6.8 kernel, do
    Code:
    apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386
or for whatever processor you have debian package search

If you need to build 2.6.8 kernel from source, then take a look at
