Azureus On Debian Distro
Hello everyone,
Lately I have spent a lot of time trying to install Azureus on my Debian system.
This is a nightmare, as I am completely new to Linux and Debian is not a very end-user friendly OS. But the reason for me using Debian is pure knowledge of servers, and knowledge of the way linux works. So I would like to stick with Debian and hopefully learn how to thouroughly use it some time in the future.
But just for now can one of you Linux/Debian pros give me some pointers on getting Azureus to run please.
Thanks In Advance!

IIRC, Azureus relies on you having Java installed, and I think that, since Java is proprietory software, it often isn't available to install from distro CDs and so forth. If indeed it is a Java problem, check out this page about Azureus and Java on the Azureus wiki, especially these two sections
If you've already got a working Java installation, then post back with some more details of what goes wrong during installation (especially any error messages).

How are you trying to install it?
I didn't have it installed so I just did apt-get install azureus and it installed and than I ran it with no problems.
It did have to install some other packages:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
azureus libcommons-cli-java liblog4j1.2-java libseda-java libswt-gtk-3.1-java libswt-gtk-3.1-jni
All of which installed with no problems.
I have the newest verion of Sun's Java installed.
java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

In short, the free java package in Debian Etch doesn't work very well (not fonctionnal) with Azureus. As the Azureus version from Debian Etch rely on this free java, well...
So install java manualy from sun.java.com (using java-package):
http://technowizah.com/2005/12/debia...suns-java.html
Then use the Azureus binary package from Azureus site.

Or you can just install Sun Java from unstable just make sure you have non-free.
That's how I installed it and Azureus installed without a hitch.Debian Sid LXDE Kernel liquorix CPU Pentium IV 2.80GHz GeForce 9400 GT

If you took the binary package from Azureus site, then, once untared, you should have an "azureus" directory. The executable is called azureus, no extension.
