    Playing AVI's And MP3's



    Can someone please give me some help on how I would go about playing mp3's and avi's on my Debian system. I have looked around with google but was unable to find a sollution, that is user-friendly enough for me to understand. Thanks.

    You have to add Marillat's repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file. See here on how to do it:
    http://debian-multimedia.org/

    And then download the appropriate codecs (w32codecs, various gstreamers plugins if you are using Gnome, etc.).

    If you're using GNOME, Debian's default repositories should have everything you need (except MS's WMV9 codecs). Under Synaptic, search for "gstreamer" and install the plugins you want. The package "gstreamer0.8-misc" will probably have everything you need.
