Kernel Panic after installing wireless with mod assitant
I installed ieee80211 and ipw2000 with module assistant. Downloaded wpasuppliment, started to conifigure my wireless card. I had to reboot and the system doesn't load. I get a kernel panic error -not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt. I am running kernel 2.6.16-2-686. I can still boot to my other kernel. Anyone know what the heck is going on? Second time this has happened.

Where can I find my kernel-panic log file
So I get the kernel panic message. Then reboot to the old kernel. But were in the system can I see the error messages from the kernel panic message? I have looked in var/log and see only the running kernel messages.
is there a way I can use my 2.6.15 config that is working and load it with make menuconfig to the 2.6.16 kernel without screwing up my only working kernel on the system?

Yes, take a look here for Debian's own instructions on how to compile a kernel:
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/re...kernel.en.html"To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

But the Debian How To is outdated
It is for kernel 2.4..... Arent there changes in 2.6.16.x that can effect the install?
Is there a guide specifically for 2.6.16-2.686? I am looking for it online

It is exactly the same for 2.6 kernels using Debian's method. Check my first post here for more details :

thanks
I am all set. the only thing is i followed the debian instructions and modified my kernel. but this part - "fakeroot make-kpkg --append_to_version -486 --initrd \
--revision=rev.01 kernel_image \
modules_image # modules_image is for pcmcia-cs* etc"
I was using linux-source-2.6.16-2-686 and I ended up replacing it with 486 since it wouldnt let me compilt with 686. it boots fine and everything is working. just wondering what the deal is with this.
Thanks for your help
