Question ubuntu 6.06 install hangs at Installing base system

    Gday folks.

Trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 (alternate) on a low-end compaq, it hangs shortly into 'installing the base system'. [e.g. 6%, retrieving apt...]

I created the partition during the install. It is after an NTFS partition on the disk.

Any ideas? Is there some extra debugging in the install I should turn on?

have you checked your net connection? if it hangs retrieving apt maybe it's looking for the net.

    No net set up

This computer has no net connection at this stage. I am trying to set it up as the gateway to the net in the home network.

It says it cant aoutamically set up a network address. I have tried a) specifying 192.168.0.1 and b) set up network later.
