    webmail server

    Hi,

This is my first post here - and it's one in desperation.

Now, don't laugh, I'm a .net programmer and have set up Exchange server for many clients, unfortunatly (for me) my own website has become so popular that it can no longer be hosted on a W2003 server.

For the last 6 days I have been trying to setup some sort of webmail for our site users. I have installed PostFix and Squirrelmail, but I don't seem to be able to connect at all. I have tried the config example address given my the readme squirrelmail file (with my domain substituted) and I get a 404. Also, I cannot connect to the pop3 (presumably postfix) server in anyway at all.

    I am now completely lost.

I clearly have buggered up the install, but have no idea what to do next. I have about 20k users that all want their email, and I have no idea how to provide it.

If anyone can point me at a reasonably 'newbie' step-by-step guide to setting up pop3/webmail on debian-sarge(?) I will be forever gratefull.
(also, if anyone can help me uninstall the mess I have made with installing squirrelmail, postfix, sendmail and a whole host of others that I seem to have cocked up, I will also be very, very thankfull)

    Thanks in advance.

Why can't Exchange handle it? Just curious as to why you think a Linux solution can better handle your server load? After all, it all boils down to bandwidth and hardware.

Simply because we were hosted on a windows server and it was constantly dishing out error messages (using IIS). The host at the time suggested we move to Linux (Apache)- we did, and the errors stopped.

We now have a dedicated Debian box, so exchange is no longer an option.

I've just re-installed reinstalled dovecot and squirrelmail. Got an error with the install of dovecot, but squirelmail was fine.

How do I test to see if Squirrelmail has installed/working ok?
