    Problem with pendrives

Hi, my proble is as follows, when a insert my pendrive, the gnome-volume-manager cant mount it, when i tryed to do it manually, i've find out that there's no /dev/sd*.
i really don't know the exactly cause of the problem, but i guess it could be an after upgrade problem.
i did some googling, and fond a lot of hotplug, which is not instaled, but my pendrive used to work fine even without it, anyways i've tryed to install it with apt, with i get some dependency problem and it asks me to uninstall gnome-desktop-environment, gnome-volume-manager, hal, hal-device-manager, initramfs-tools, linux-image-2.6-486, linux-image-2.6.15-1-486, udev, update-notifier.
i am a newbie on linux, so i dont know what else can i do, i din't install hotplug because of these problems.
if it helps, im using debian-testing, on a ibm thinkpad t40, im sure that my pendrive works fine. gnome-volume-manager used to automount my pendrive just some days ago and i use fluxbox as default wm.
thanks you all for our help.

well im using 2.6.15-1... anyways, i solved my problem....
    how??
i just guess that for an after-upgrade problem could be an after-upgrade solution.
cause that's all i did after a few days that i have to deal without my pendrive or any usb devices, now it just works fine, thanks anyway for your answer.

well, unfortunatly the problem is back again, but this time, when i insert my pendrive, gnome-volume-manager mounts it, then i unmount it.
after all this, when i try to plug my pendrive again, the problem was back again, there was no /dev/sd* and i haven't done any upgrades.
if i do lsusb, it doest show my pendrive.
    what could the problem be???
i just can't find any solution.
    thanks.
