    Question Ultimate n00b question...-Installing



    Ok. I have downloaded a .deb for AIM. And thats all I got. I really need to know what to do now... I know im a huge n00b but I just got it all installed today. And im still learning my way around. I have searched but I got nothing, I'm in debian now so I figured out the internet!
    Also I came from windows... dang microsoft...

    See this http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-pkgtools.en.html or perhaps you would be better of installing gaim
    apt-get update
    apt-get install gaim

    Congratulations on your step into a bigger world, Devon. Now it's time to unlearn the ways of Windows.
    When you want to install a program, usually you don't need to get it fom the Web. Instead, use a package manager, where you can look up a program by name (and/or description and other attributes) and have it downloaded and installed in two clicks or keystrokes. The Synaptic package manager is great for this.
    Stand up and be counted as a Linux user!
