    Setting up printer under GNOME

I'm having a little issue with GNOME's CUPS configuration on Debian Etch!

I've installed the gutenprint drivers, which cover my printer (Epson Stylus C86) and yet it still doesn't auto detect the printer. So I tried manually installing the printer, which leads me to the window to choose the driver (Step 1). That gets me no where fast because there seems to be no installed drivers (not even the standard CUPS drivers). At this point I figured I should manually install the driver, and it shows up on the list, but once I hit OK it says the printer is installed but nothing happens when I try to print a test page!

The printer is an Espon Stylus C86 connected using the Parallel Port. I'd just like to add that I've gotten this printer working on Etch in the past (about 6 months ago) with no problems. Seems like the problem was when they migrated to the gutenprint driver package.

Anyone have any ideas where to go from here?

Out of those, the only I didn't have installed was printconf and foomatic-db-gutenprint! Unfortunately, I got nothing even after installing them.

I've been using the GNOME CUPS manager to try setting them up, but it never auto detects the printer nor any of the ppd files. When I try to manually install a driver, it installs but the printer still doesn't work.
