Question new install - aptitude shows loads to uninstall

    Hi,

Just finished my first Debian (3.1r2'sarge') install (via the web). Went well (except for the nvidia drivers, got there eventually though ).

So I went into aptitude and it has got loads of files/packages listed for uninstall.

Is this correct? Can I trust it to uninstall these items?

If not how can I clear what it wants to uninstall?

    Thanks,
    RR

I would use synaptic over aptitude it will show you what is current for your version and what is upgradable.

    Thanks,

Actually as a noob I`ve been on the steep learning curve and have, in the meantime, worked out for mysqlf that synaptic is the tool to use.

    Ta,
