    gdm logs me out

Often, when I step away from the pc I find that I am logged out. The syslog file (toward the end) shows the following line:

    Jul 24 10:32:13 localhost gdm[1804]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

Is there any way to diagnose this problem? (or at least dig into it a bit deeper)

Check your /var/logXorg.0.log file and /var/log/messages. They should give you more information.

For a complete troubleshooting, we would need to know the distro version you use and the hardware specs.
