    NIC Bonding

Hi. I have a requirement to use Debian Etch/Testing for a specific task. I have multiple interfaces on the host, some of which I need to bond to allow traffic monitoring to work over a Netoptics Ethernet tap.

My main requirement is that the virtual interface (bond0) is passive, i.e. it has no IP address assigned. I have used bonding on RHEL, and it was pretty easy, but I'm having trouble with Debian.

Can anyone provide a howto or point me to a resource that shows how to create a bonded interface *without* an IP address assigned, or tell me which parameters need to be changed from the standard bonding configuration to allow this.

    Thanks.

    bonding without ip address

The reply does not seem to address the question. The example there are all with an ip address. I also want to configure bonding without ip address. Is this possible at all?

    thanks
