I don't know how farmiliar you are with linux in general, but the best place to start is to use "ls -l" and see what permissions the files on the drive have. A good thing to try is to type the command "chmod 666 <filenames or wildcard>", which will allow anyone to read/write to those directories/files.

Also, something so obvious it might get overlooked, check to be sure write protection hasn't been enabled on the drive itself, most of them have an external switch.

Please give us some more details about what you've tried and how much experience you have.

    Good luck!

    Wont work??

    Hi guys

    Thanks for your ideas

I Have tried all of the above.
Chmod will not work as the drive says its read only for all non-ramdisk
folders (basically anything on /KNOPPIX is read only).

Could it be the way i have installed damn small linux.
I installed from live CD (dsl 3.0) and made Zip install and HDD Install to the usb pen. Before i did that i formated in FAT16 and FAT32, both didnt make any changes to the fact i cant write to pen drive (usb)

I have installed DSL 3 on HD on the server side (which is a laptop) this can write fine. no problems.

The USB Pen drive (which i am having problems) is on a Thin Client.

    Any ideas?

    Once again. Thanks

    sorry, i forgot to say,

as far as i am aware there is no write protection on the drive itself, the drive has no switch.

    cheers

Ive tried so many new installs. I need to install drivers for a touch screen, and cant do so
