did it exit unexpectedly? When the browser is forced to quit (or killed) quickly it assumes it crashed and offers to recover your open windows. It shouldn't do this if you close it normally.

what site were you looking at when it died? Can you run it from the command line to see if any errors are shown? What version of epiphany?
