DSL freezes right at the beginning

The cpu has no os on it whatsoever which shouldnt be a problem right? It boots fine from the cdrom and says 'starting linux' and then it goes to another screen with just the image of the penguin in the upper left corner. I have had some problems trying to install win95 on this unit and it said 'unable to detect drive' or some sort...but I am stuck and was looking for some help! Thanks in advance! p.s.- I dont care about the win95 at all i just want linux on there for sure!

Assuming the DSL disk is good, the only thing I can think of is to try some of the cheat codes available to you right before the CD actually begins to boot. They are usually available through use of the F-keys.

Dsl failsafe works to a certain extent and then freezes again. What is wiki? wikipedia? Also, I used f2 and f3 key codes to no avail except for the failsafe which, as I said, froze further along.
