New user to linux ati driver question.
I hav a ATI 8500 dv AIW Tv radeon graphics card and have just installed Debian Sarge on my computer. Gigabyte m/board 1 gig ddr400 ram and AMD 3200 cpu, 19inch lcd screen. It is working fine with the xfree86 windows standard driver but I wish to install the new driver that I have downloaded from the Ati website. The website says that I must uninstall the standard driver first and then install the new driver. I am not sure how to do this as I am not that familiar to linux being a new user and trying this for the first time. All went well with the install and it is running perfectly and I do not wish to upset anything. But I would like to use the new driver so I can setup my TV. I someone may be able to assist me with this. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

In X, uninstalling a video driver normally means just changing the "Driver" line in XF86Config (or xorg.conf) so that it specifies a different driver. The ATi installer will do that for you, so you really don't need to do anything before installing the new driver.
Stand up and be counted as a Linux user!
