Depends: kdebase-bin (>= 4:3.5.4-2) but it is not installable
    ...

Could you please post which dependecies are not met? Guess apt-get/synaptic should tell you.
I tired Synaptic too but it's asking to remove gnome before installation ??
well, it shouldn't ask to remove gnome to install kde, but the fact is, you must have some packages synaptic thinks are "broken" so it wants you to reinstall them before you can install something else...
I think you need to know which those problematic packages are, then try to reinstall them.
    Then try to get kde...

I'm not a linux guru myself, and I use fedora and play with ubuntu (this one is debian-based), but I've been through exactly that the last week, and I tried to clean up everything, so that synaptic and my other package managers were happy again, then I could install kde 3.5.4.
Unfortunately I had to remove first, important packages (including many gnome packages), before I could install anew... Anything it complains about, try update or reinstall first. Then, if it doesn't work, well, I don't know how much you dare mess with the system, as far as I'm concerned, I removed it...
Let's see which your broken packages are, and don't worry, even if you remove much or almost all of gnome in the process, you'll probably find that 1) you may still log into gnome, even if it complains it doesn't have applets or something (so you can still use synaptic) and 2) even if it comes that far, your settings will be preserved, so when you install some updated gnome again, you'll get much of your old environment
Of course, don't use "completely remove" in synaptic, that will remove config files.
