    Intel(R) 537EP Dial-Up Modem Intallation Failure

    hello there,
I searched the forums and didn't find anything related to this problem. I've changed my dial-up modem and now faced a problem in installing it in the debian sarge dist. I tried to install the modem as below:

    1. In the first step, i do a "uname -a". so I will get this:
    http://cephexin.secumania.com/uname.png -- 2.4.27-2-686.

    2. now with the kernel version in hand, i must install the kernel headers, so:

    apt-get install kernel-headers-2.4.27-2-686
and here's the output for this part: http://cephexin.secumania.com/header-output

    3. the next step is to install the build-essential package, so:

    apt-get install build-essential
and here's the output for this part: http://cephexin.secumania.com/package-inst

    4. Now it's the time to install the modem driver. I've a "Intel(R) 537EP Modem", so i went through the web and found this:

    http://www.driverskit.com/freedownlo...nux/16153.html
(i don't know it's true or not) - so give me the correct one if it's not the true one for my modem.

I've tried the lspci and the scanModem to find my chipsets too. but as you know, the Intel© is the only company which produces the modems with the same name of "Intel®" (so this part is not that important somehow). Anyway here's them too:

    http://cephexin.secumania.com/lspci.png
    http://cephexin.secumania.com/scanModem.png

This is the most important information that i thought is needed... now with it in your mind, please help me to install the modem in my debian sarge box. I tried a lot, but nothing was the result.
If more information is needed, notice me please.

    thank you.

Grabbing the build essentials package and the kernel headers, are you trying to rebuild your kernel with the new driver in it? If not, what made you grab these packages. (I have never installed a modem, but I have recompiled a kernel. So if that is the case, I may be able to help)

I'm not gonna install a new kernel, but the case is to provide a situation to install the modem handy. As far as i know, the build essential and the kernel headers packages are needed to be installed before attempting to install a modem. Anyway, I think there's a problem in the source of driver, which needs some manual changes; but dunno where and dunno what!

    Any idea!?
    Anyone help?

    formerly thanks..

    Hi dude
The best piece of advice I can give you is to use Ubuntu since it has the best available documentation for this type of things and then follow this guide. Report any errors you encounter. That way, we can be of more use.

Two more points, the driver provided by Intel is not compatible with kernel versions newer than 2.6.15 so keep this in mind. And as for the info you provided use lsmodem. I think it can be of more help.
