Cool X problem (Screen and Mouse)

I installed Debian 3.1r Sarge from a 2 DVD set. And when I start X the monitor says "OVER SPECIFICATION". I edited the xfree86config and entered the values used by the monitor when I boot knoppix from a cd rom. And my mouse doesnt work properly on Debian too. they all worked perfectly in even Slackware and Gentoo. I am currently running a Debianized Knoppix installation. I want to install Debian again and I want it to get my screen and my mouse properly. Please reply soon.

just in case u want to keep that configuration cp it somewhere for a backup, and after that is done do X -configure and it will try and auto-configure X related stuff, and will have to copy the file it created in /root to /etc/X11/. btw u have to run it as root if u don't know. after that is done try to start x and if it works edit the conf file carefully to adjust some things that u want in it
