debian corrupt grub - error 15 - i want to free the debian space

i want to uninstall debian from my system too.

i was hibernating my computer when i accidentally turned the power off. next time i tried to turn the computer on i got the "error 15" message when the grub was loading. now i cannot even get to the window where i can choose between windows and debian.

i dont know how to go about getting rid of this problem. should i boot from the debian cd? my friend did all the setup so i don't even know where to get it. and once i get it what should i do to perhaps get rid of debian for now. if i can get into windows, i can use partition manager to reclaim the free space. please help.

i am downloading Debian From Scratch right now - has anyone used this software before? will this help me with my problem?

So you also have windows on the machine currently?

If so just download a win98 (or similar) boot floppy, boot from that floppy and use the command
    fdisk /mbr
and everything should be cool. It should boot windows just like it never had linux on it.

This will make linux unbootable, you will not be able to boot linux after this. Please be aware of this.

i tried FIXMBR and i got a message saying "this might corrupt the partition table" or sth like that. is this a normal risk to be taken?

Yea, it is mostly a warning but I have seen crap happen. I actually have seen fixboot/fixmbr cause problems. Always at your own risk, it is rare but does sometimes happen.
