    Hanging at boot after install.

Ok, heres the deal....I'm *incredibly* new to Linux. I've run Red Hat 8.0 in the past, but didn't have it for very long. So now, I'm trying to install Ubuntu, with very little luck. I've tried 5.04 and 6.06, and both times, the install went smoothly, but when it spits the disc out and reboots, it hangs at loading Grub. I don't get any errors, it just says please wait....
and I wait, and wait and wait. I've gotten the Live version working from the cd, but the install won't boot. Any ideas? And please remember, I"m not up on the linux speak just yet, so dumb it down a little if possible.

I should mention, it's a fresh install, on a hard drive by itself, and when I'm installing, it's the only hard drive plugged in.
